The Cincinnati Reds have called up 25-year old lefty swinging Chris Dickerson to replace Adam Dunn on the roster. Dickerson was the #27 ranked prospect in the Reds’ system coming into the season according to Baseball America but he has really played well in AAA this year. Dickerson has played in 97 games in AAA-Ball this season and he is 100 for 349 (.287 avg, .863 OPS) with 65 runs scored, 11 homers, 53 RBIs and 26 stolen bases. Dickerson will likely get an extended audition in Cincinnati to prove what he can do in August and September.

The Cincinnati Reds trade outfielder Adam Dunn to the Diamondbacks

The Reds have traded 28-year old outfielder Adam Dunn + cash to the Diamondbacks for 23-year old righty starting pitcher Dallas Buck and two players to be named later. Dunn played in 114 games for the Reds this season and he was 87 for 373 (.233 avg, .901 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 32 homers and 74 RBIs. Dunn has a reputation for having a good eye as he has walked 80 times this season but how can you really have a good eye when you whiff 120 times? I just don’t get it. Dunn finished his career in Cincinnati having played in 1,087 games in which he was 920 for 3,727 (.247 avg, .900 OPS) with 678 runs scored, 270 homers, 646 RBIs and 58 stolen bases. The Reds will likely now have an outfield of Corey Patterson, Jay Bruce and Jerry Hairston for the remainder of the season and that’s not a good thing.

Dallas Buck was the Diamondbacks’ #17 prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. He has had a lot of injury issues in the past so the Reds are taking a gamble here. Buck has pitched in 10 games (9 starts) in A-ball this season and he is 1-5 with a 3.55 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. It will be interesting to see who the Reds get in the off-season to complete this trade but anyway you look at it they will miss Dunn’s bat.

The Cincinnati Reds designate catcher David Ross for assignment

The Reds have designated catcher David Ross for assignment. He played in 52 games for the Reds this season and he was 31 for 134 (.231 avg, .747 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 3 homers and 13 RBIs. The Reds might be able to get something for Ross as a lot of teams have a need at catcher like the Astros for instance. The Reds have recalled 27-year old righty swinging Ryan Hanigan to replace Ross on the roster. Hanigan played in 75 games in AAA-ball this season and he was 88 for 272 (.324 avg, .811 OPS) with 37 runs scored, 4 homers and 35 RBIs. He made his major league debut on Sunday and he was 2 for 4 with 1 run scored, a homer and 2 RBIs.
