The Reds have outrighted Jolbert Cabrera, Jon Adkins and Adam Pettyjohn to AAA making them all free agents. 35-year old righty swinging utility man Jolbert Cabrera revived his career with the Reds this past season. He played in 48 games for the Reds this season and he was 29 for 115 (.252 avg, .710 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 3 homers and 12 RBIs. Cabrera has now played in 609 games in his major league career and he is 362 for 1,406 (.257 avg, .671 OPS) with 189 runs scored, 18 homers, 157 RBIs and 38 stolen bases. Cabrera will hook on with some team for the 2009 season to compete for a spot on the bench in spring training.

31-year old righty reliever Jon Adkins was also let go by the Reds. He pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Reds this season and he was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.91 WHIP. Adkins has now pitched in 119 games (0 starts) in his major league career and he is 5-5 with a 4.54 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP. He will likely get a spring training invite over the winter.

31-year old lefty Adam Pettyjohn was let go by the Reds and he certainly deserved to be based on his pitching in 2008. He pitched in 3 games (1 start) for the Reds this past season and he was 0-1 with a 20.25 ERA and a 3.25 WHIP. Pettyjohn has now pitched in 19 games (10 starts) in his major league career and he is 1-7 with a 6.65 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP. The Reds won’t miss any of these guys as they are looking to rebuild with younger players.
