The Reds have placed 29-year old lefty swinging outfielder Laynce Nix on the 15-day disabled list. Nix has played in 92 games for the Reds this year and he is 46 of 158 (.291 avg, .807 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 4 homers and 18 RBIs. The Reds have called up 22-year old lefty reliever Aroldis Chapman to replace Nix on the active roster. Chapman has pitched in 39 games (13 starts) in AAA-ball this year and he is 9-6 with 8 saves, a 3.57 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He has whiffed 125 batters in only 95 2/3 innings while allowing only 77 hits showing what kind of nasty stuff he has. Chapman’s only weakness is his control as he has walked 52 batters already this year. He will need to tighten up that control if he wants the Reds to trust him late in ball games.

Travis Wood has been pitching really well for the Cincinnati Reds this year

23-year old rookie lefty starting pitcher Travis Wood has burst onto the scene this year for the Reds. He has started 10 games for the Reds so far this year and he is 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. He has only given up 43 hits while whiffing 49 batters in 61 1/3 innings this year for the Reds. Wood has really solid stuff so I expect that he will be able to keep up the good work the second time through the league and beyond.

The Cincinnati Reds place Mike Leake on the D.L.

The Reds have placed 22-year old rookie pitcher Mike Leake on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder fatigue. Leake has pitched in 24 games (22 starts) this year for the Reds and he is 8-4 with a 4.23 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Those are pretty darn good numbers for a kid who never pitched one game in the minor leagues. The Reds have recalled 23-year old righty swinging 3B/OF Juan Francisco to replace Leake on the active roster. Francisco played in 12 games earlier this year for the Reds and he was 7 of 22 (.318 avg, .757 OPS) with 1 run scored and 5 RBIs.

The Reds have placed 40-year old lefty swinging outfielder Jim Edmonds on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique muscle. Edmonds has played in 9 games for the Reds since coming over in a deal with the Brewers and he is 3 of 22 (.136 avg, .572 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 1 homer and 1 RBI. The Reds have recalled 24-year old righty reliever Jordan Smith to replace Edmonds on the active roster. Smith has pitched in 27 games (0 starts) this year for the Reds and he is 2-2 with 1 save, a 3.67 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP.

Laynce Nix is seeing reduced P.T. for the Cincinnati Reds

Blogged under General, Front Page, Playing Well, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Thursday 19 August 2010 at 2:15 pm

With rookie Chris Heisey and veteran Jim Edmonds on the team, Laynce Nix is seeing his P.T. dry up. Nix has played in 86 games for the Reds this year and he is 42 of 147 (.286 avg, .800 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 4 homers and 18 RBIs so he is still hitting well. But the Reds are so deep in the outfield that someone has to sit and it has been Nix. That could change though if Jim Edmonds continues to struggle. Edmonds has played in 6 games for the Reds so far and he is 3 of 19 (.158 avg, .621 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 1 homer and 1 RBI.
