The Reds have placed 29-year old lefty swinging outfielder Laynce Nix on the 15-day disabled list. Nix has played in 92 games for the Reds this year and he is 46 of 158 (.291 avg, .807 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 4 homers and 18 RBIs. The Reds have called up 22-year old lefty reliever Aroldis Chapman to replace Nix on the active roster. Chapman has pitched in 39 games (13 starts) in AAA-ball this year and he is 9-6 with 8 saves, a 3.57 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He has whiffed 125 batters in only 95 2/3 innings while allowing only 77 hits showing what kind of nasty stuff he has. Chapman’s only weakness is his control as he has walked 52 batters already this year. He will need to tighten up that control if he wants the Reds to trust him late in ball games.
