The Reds have signed 26-year old righty starting pitcher Luis Atilano to a minor league deal. Atilano pitched in 2 games (both starts) in AA-ball for the Nationals last year and he was 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA and a 2.50 WHIP. He missed most of last season as he was recovering from elbow surgery. Atilano pitched in 16 games (all starts) for the Nationals in 2010 (his only major league experience so far) and he was 6-7 with a 5.15 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. Atilano will likely start the 2012 season in the minors, as he continues to build his elbow back up.

The Reds have signed 25-year old starter/reliever Sean Gallagher to a minor league deal. Gallagher pitched in 29 games (23 starts) in AAA-ball last year and he was 5-12 with a 5.11 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. He last pitched in the majors back in 2010 for the Padres & Pirates. Gallagher has pitched in 91 games (23 starts) in his first four years in the majors and he is 10-10 with 1 save, a 5.64 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. Gallagher will probably start 2012 in AAA-ball and have to earn his way to Cincinnati by pitching well.
