27-year old lefty swinging 1B Joey Votto is turning in a great follow-up season to his 2010 N.L. MVP Award winning year. Votto has played in 122 games for the Reds so far this year and he is 144 for 449 (.321 avg, .962 OPS) with 81 runs scored, 20 homers, 73 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Votto’s numbers might be down a tad production wise but that’s only because he has the full respect of pitching staffs. That’s because he has already walked 88 times this year. He will smash his career high for walks (91), which he set last year. Votto has now played in 578 games in his first five years in the majors and he is 655 for 2,075 (.316 avg, .959 OPS) with 349 runs scored, 110 homers, 371 RBIs and 34 stolen bases.

Chris Heisey is in line for a bump in P.T. for the Cincinnati Reds

26-year old righty swinging outfielder Chris Heisey is likely to get a nice bump in P.T. due to the Jonny Gomes deal. Heisey has played in 91 games for the Reds so far this year and he is 49 for 198 (.247 avg, .767 OPS) with 34 runs scored, 12 homers, 36 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has now played in 187 games in his first two years with the Reds and he is 100 for 399 (.251 avg, .762 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 20 homers, 57 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. His one weakness is that he whiffs a lot as he has 100 strikeouts so far in his career, but that’s nitpicking considering the power he has.

27-year old lefty swinging 1B Joey Votto, 30-year old righty swinging 2B Brandon Phillips and 24-year old lefty swinging RF Jay Bruce have been selected to the N.L. All-Star team. Votto has played in 86 games for the Reds so far this year and he is 100 for 317 (.315 avg, .930 OPS) with 55 runs scored, 12 homers, 52 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. Teams have been pitching around Votto quite a bit this year as he has walked 62 times already. Brandon Phillips is turning in another solid year for the Reds in 2011. He has played in 82 games for the Reds so far this year and he is 99 for 339 (.292 avg, .763 OPS) with 53 runs scored, 8 homers, 45 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Jay Bruce has played in 83 games for the Reds so far this year and he is 82 for 318 (.258 avg, .805 OPS) with 47 runs scored, 18 homers, 51 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. This is a pretty solid trio the Reds are sending to the All-Star Game.

Reduced P.T. seems to have brought Jonny Gomes’ bat back

30-year old righty swinging LF Jonny Gomes has seen his P.T. start to drop to due Fred Lewis and Chris Heisey playing well. It seems to have put some vigor back into his bat so far in June. Gomes has played in 16 games for the Reds so far in June and he is 13 for 40 (.325 avg, 1.015 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 3 homers and 10 RBIs. Gomes has now played in 62 games for the Reds so far this year and he is 40 for 181 (.221 avg, .778 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 10 homers, 30 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Gomes is also whiffing at an alarming rate as he has struck out 59 times already this year. Gomes better continue to hit well or he’s going to continue to lose playing time as the Reds might be in the trade market for a LF, or Heisey could just flat out beat Gomes out of a job.

Miguel Cairo is still an asset off the bench for the Cincinnati Reds

37-year old righty swinging infielder Miguel Cairo has been an asset off the bench for the Reds again this year. Cairo has played in 47 games for the Reds so far this year and he is 28 for 102 (.275 avg, .715 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 2 homers and 12 RBIs. He has now played in 138 games in two years with the Reds and he is 86 for 302 (.285 avg, .746 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 6 homers, 40 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Cairo’s versatility in the field and his solid bat remain a huge asset off the bench for the Reds.
