Yonder Alonso is on the fast track to the Cincinnati Reds

22-year old lefty swinging 1B Yonder Alonso is on the fast track to the majors. He was the Reds’ top prospect heading into this season according to Baseball America. Alonso played in 84 games in Rookie+A+AA ball this season and he was 86 for 295 (.292 avg, .838 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 9 homers and 52 RBIs. He also has solid plate discipline walking 41 times and whiffing 46 times this year.

Chris Heisey might get a chance with the Cincinnati Reds soon

With all of the troubles the Reds are having in the outfield Chris Heisey could be getting close to the majors. The 24-year old righty swinging outfielder was the #22 rated prospect of the Reds’ system according to Baseball America. He has played in 100 games in AA+AAA ball this season and he is 126 for 386 (.326 avg, .926 OPS) with 68 runs scored, 16 homers, 59 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. Heisey might be ready if the Reds need him soon.

The Cincinnati Reds lose reliever Marcus McBeth on waivers to the Red Sox

The Reds have lost 27-year old righty reliever Marcus McBeth to the Red Sox on waivers. McBeth was not pitching too well for the Reds in AAA and other pitchers had passed him up in the Reds’ system so they won’t miss him. McBeth pitched in 24 games (0 starts) in AAA this season and he was 1-1 with a 6.20 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. McBeth pitched in 23 games (0 starts) for the Reds last season and he was 3-2 with a 5.95 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. McBeth has a good arm but the Reds shouldn’t miss him much.

The Cincinnati Reds call up outfielder Chris Dickerson

The Cincinnati Reds have called up 25-year old lefty swinging Chris Dickerson to replace Adam Dunn on the roster. Dickerson was the #27 ranked prospect in the Reds’ system coming into the season according to Baseball America but he has really played well in AAA this year. Dickerson has played in 97 games in AAA-Ball this season and he is 100 for 349 (.287 avg, .863 OPS) with 65 runs scored, 11 homers, 53 RBIs and 26 stolen bases. Dickerson will likely get an extended audition in Cincinnati to prove what he can do in August and September.

Drew Stubbs is working his way up in the minors for the Cincinnati Reds

23-year old righty swinging outfielder Drew Stubbs is working his way up the minors right now. He is the #5 prospect in the Reds’ minor league system according to Baseball America. Stubbs has played in 87 games in A+AA ball this season and he is 83 for 308 (.269 avg, .788 OPS) with 50 runs scored, 5 homers, 38 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. If the Reds move some outfielders in trades this off season Stubbs could make it to the big league team before September.
