The Cincinnati Reds are off to a .500 start this season

The Reds are off to a decent start as they are 3-3 on the season despite being outscored 27-22 so far this year. The Reds are only hitting .230 with a .650 OPS so far this season and that just won’t get the job done. They are wasting some really good starting pitching because they aren’t hitting. The Reds travel to Florida (4 games) and Pittsburgh (3 games) this week so maybe they can get the bats going as neither of those teams have a pitching staff that scares anyone.

The Cincinnati Reds get off to a so-so start

The Reds are off to a 2-2 start despite getting outscored 22-16. The middle relievers are having a really tough start to the season which doesn’t allow the Reds to make a comeback when the starter gets knocked out early. That isn’t the only problem though as the offense has been a little inconsistent so far this season. The Reds have won two games in a row late in games and that has to be good for the team’s confidence heading forward in 2010.

Aaron Harang continues to be outstanding for the Cincinnati Reds

Aaron Harang has been one of the best starting pitchers in all of baseball this season.  In 32 starts for the Reds, Harang is 16-4 with a 3.61 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.  In 216.2 innings this season, Harang has allowed 199 hits, walked 51 batters and whiffed 198.  The amazing thing about Harang’s record is that the Reds are only 69-82 on the season which has them in 4th place in the N.L. Central, 9.5 games behind the Cubs and Brewers.

The Cincinnati Reds are still not playing well

The Reds can really hit the baseball but they can’t pitch and until that changes they will not be a good baseball team.  The Reds are currently in 4th place in the National League Central, 9 games behind the Brewers.  The Reds are only 1.5 games ahead of the Pirates and 2 games ahead of the Astros so they do have something to play for the last couple weeks of the season.

The Cincinnati Reds are fading

The Reds made a run in early August but they are fading in the standings now.  The Reds are 62-76 which has them tied for 4th in the National League Central, 9 games behind the Cubs.  The Reds do have a good batting lineup and three players in particular are having outstanding seasons.  Brandon Phillips has been the best all-around offensive player on the Reds this season.  Phillips is hitting .287 with 92 runs scored, 26 homers, 81 RBIs and 26 stolen bases this year.  Adam Dunn also is having a great season as he is hitting .264 with 89 runs scored, 36 homers and 93 RBIs.  Ken Griffey Jr. has stayed healthy as he’s putting up good numbers hitting .286 with 73 runs scored, 29 homers and 87 RBIs.  Aaron Harang is enjoying another good season with the Reds as he is 14-4 with a 3.68 ERA.  Closer David Weathers has also done a decent job this year as he is 2-4 with 29 saves and a 3.41 ERA.
